What is a SEM firm?

Since 2004, we have maintained our status as a boutique firm. What does that mean and why?

As opposed to the traditional SEM firm that is profit centered, we are client centered. The traditional SEM firm has account managers, sales representatives, and a minimum monthly fee of $2500. Although these sales reps gain your trust and promise the future of your account, they will never actually look at your account. After the sales department, the client is transferred to an account manager who handles ten clients. That one account manager manages $25,000 a month of revenue as a minimum. If you have ten of these account managers, you have a nice business. Hence the reason why there are so many SEM Firms!

The problem lies in this corporate plan of profits and departmental “pass offs.” Firstly, managers get their salary regardless of how well your account does, and the salesmen have already collected their commission. Therefore, once you have signed with the company there is no motivation to go above and beyond for the client. If you're paying $5,000 a month in fees and the account manager is only spending 10% of the time on your account, then you’re not getting as much effort as you should. This is very similar to the web hosting industry. If too many web sites are on one server, the bandwidth of your site can be compromised. Thus, if you have a virtual hosting plan, you want the amount of other sites that are being hosted to be low on your server.

In some cases, clients pay a minimum of $2500 without the full support of their account manager. The salespeople who pitch the benefits of their services never log into the account to make sure their clients’ promises are fulfilled. They collect their salary and commission, and then it is up to the account managers to keep the business afloat.

In addition, there is a high turnover rate of unhappy, burnt out account managers because they don't love what they're doing and aren't being fairly compensated for the work they do. They manage the day-to-day affairs of an account yet the salespeople reap all the profit without all the work.

Elite SEM is set up differently. We make sure our clients profit by their association with our company. With a stable employee group, the company boasts employees who stay happy and motivated as they manage and maintain their own accounts. The salesperson who sells the account also manages the account and generates and runs his or her own business. This hybrid allows our employees to earn as a salesperson would while also working and earning as an Account Manager. Therefore, the amount of profit for Elite SEM may be compromised but our clients are not!
